The International Conference FINCON 2024, organized by the Research Department of Commerce, St. Thomas College (Autonomous), Thrissur, in association with the Institute of Cost Accountants of India, Thrissur Chapter, was held on the 9th and 10th of December 2024. The event brought together scholars, academicians, and industry experts to discuss contemporary issues and advancements in commerce and economics.
*Day 1: 9th December 2024*
*Inaugural Session (10:00 am – 11:00 am)*
The conference commenced with a solemn prayer, followed by a Welcome Address by Prof. (Dr.) Biju John M, the Convener of FINCON 2024. The Presidential Address was delivered by Rev. Dr. Martin K A, Principal of St. Thomas College, who highlighted the importance of fostering academic excellence and collaboration.
The Inaugural Address was delivered by Mr. Anto George T., Chief General Manager of South Indian Bank. He emphasized the significance of research in commerce and its practical implications for the banking and financial sector. The session featured a compelling Keynote Address by Dr. Daisland Thattil, Head of the Research Department of Commerce, who encouraged researchers to adopt innovative approaches to problem-solving in commerce. The session concluded with a Vote of Thanks by Dr. Sowmia Rajan K, Joint Convener.
*Technical Session I (11:15 am – 12:30 pm)*
Welcome address for The first technical session, was delivered by Dr. Divya George, Joint Convener, the session was focused on “Doing High-Quality Research in Social Sciences.” Dr. Sreejesh S, Associate Professor at IIM Kozhikode, served as the resource person. His session provided practical insights into achieving rigor and relevance in social science research. Prof. Mestin P C delivered the Vote of Thanks.
*Technical Session II (1:30 pm – 3:00 pm)*
The welcome address for the second session titled “The Scholarโ€™s Path: Surviving the Hurdle of the Publication Process” was delivered by Dr. Sindhu George. Prof. Dr. Saji T G, Professor and Dean at the Central University of Kerala, elaborated on the challenges and strategies for successfully publishing academic work. Dr. Jilna John concluded the session with the Vote of Thanks.
*Day 2: 10th December 2024*
*Technical Session III (9:30 am – 11:00 am)*
Held at Kaviprathibha Hall, this session explored the “Economic and Social Impact of Artificial Intelligence.” Prof. Dr. Raveendran Madhavan from Pittsburg University, United States, provided a global perspective on AI’s transformative role in society and commerce. Prof. Ajesh Antony extended a warm welcome, and Ms. Arsha Ramesh, Student Convener, concluded the session with the Vote of Thanks.
*Technical Session IV & V (11:15 am – 12:30 pm)*
Simultaneous sessions of paper presentations were conducted:
โ€ข โ€ข Technical Session IV, chaired by Dr. Sabu P J, was held at Kaviprathibha Hall, where academicians and research scholars presented their findings.
โ€ข Technical Session V, chaired by Dr. Salini K, took place at Menachery Hall, featuring additional research presentations.
*Technical Session VI (1:30 pm – 3:30 pm)*
The final session involved online presentations by scholars from diverse locations. It was chaired by Dr. Sindhu K P, Principal of NSS College, Kappur, and provided a platform for virtual academic interaction.

FINCON 2024 was a resounding success, fostering intellectual dialogue and collaboration among experts in commerce and economics. The meticulously organized sessions and diverse topics enriched the knowledge base of participants, making it a memorable and impactful event.
