The event was held in connection with World Wetlands Day 2025 and conducted in association with SACON EIACP Programme Centre, funded by the Ministry of Environment, Forest, and Climate Change, India. Event Highlights The programme took place at Kaviprathibha Hall and aimed to spread awareness about wetland conservation and sustainability. Prof. Dr. Binoy C.F., Head of the Department of Zoology, welcomed the participants, while Rev. Dr. Martin K. A., Principal of St. Thomas College, delivered the Presidential Address. One of the major attractions of the event was the unveiling of Wetland Day Posters and the honoring of winners of the Painting Competition: Ms. Arpita Renjith (STD XB) โ Newman Central School and Junior College, Elanthoor, Pathanamthitta Ms. Anwitha P. R. (Grade XI) โ Hari Sri Vidya Nidhi, Thrissur Mr. Febin M Joju (I BSc Zoology) โ CMS College, Kottayam Key Sessions & Takeaways Mr. Shaun Paul Adambukulam (Assistant Professor of Zoology) delivered a felicitation speech. Ms. Julffia Begum A (Program Officer, SACON EIACP) introduced the audience to #MissionLiFE, covering its seven sustainability themes. Mr. Basu S. S. (Junior Research Biologist, Wetland Ecology Division, SACON) gave an insightful lecture on Understanding Wetlands, emphasizing their role in biodiversity and climate resilience. Participants also took the Wetland Mitra Pledge, committing to protect and restore wetland ecosystems. Eco-Friendly Initiatives As part of the event, the SACON EIACP team distributed: โ Eco-friendly cloth bagsโ Seedball kitsโ Awareness literature and posters These initiatives promoted sustainable practices and encouraged participants to make eco-conscious choices. Commitment to UN SDGs The event aligned with multiple United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including SDG-2 (Zero Hunger), SDG-3 (Good Health & Well-being), SDG-6 (Clean Water & Sanitation), SDG-10 (Reduced Inequalities), SDG-11 (Sustainable Cities & Communities), SDG-12 (Responsible Consumption & Production), SDG-13 (Climate Action), SDG-14 (Life Below Water), SDG-15 (Life on Land), and SDG-17 (Partnerships for the Goals). Closing Remarks Dr. Joyce Jose (Assistant Professor of Zoology) proposed the vote of thanks and urged students and faculty to take action toward a greener and more sustainable planet.
