Kerala Governor to Inaugurate St. Chavara Excellence Award at Sacred Heart College, Thevara

In a proud moment for Kerala’s academic and cultural community, Hon’ble Governor Shri. Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar will inaugurate the St. Chavara Excellence Award 2025. The event, hosted by the Prof. K.V. Thomas Vidyadhanam Trust, will take place on June 11, 2025, at 11:00 AM, at the Sacred Heart College Auditorium, Thevara, Kochi.

✨ Honouring the Legacy of St. Kuriakose Elias Chavara

The St. Chavara Excellence Award celebrates the enduring legacy of St. Kuriakose Elias Chavara (1805–1871) — a visionary priest, educator, and social reformer who reshaped Kerala’s educational and social landscape.

St. Chavara’s notable contributions include:

• Founded Kerala’s first printing press, leading to Nasrani Deepika – the state’s first newspaper.
• Pioneered inclusive education, including for Dalits, and introduced boarding schools for girls.
• Established Sanskrit education, family life guidelines, and church-based learning systems.
• Recognized as a saint by the Catholic Church in 2014 and honoured by the Government of Kerala.
