St. Mary’s College Thrissur Hosts “ChronoCode” DNA Fingerprinting Presentation Contest

The Department of Biotechnology, St. Mary’s College (Autonomous), Thrissur, successfully conducted the intercollegiate scientific presentation competition “ChronoCode: Tracing the Timeline of DNA Fingerprinting” on 10th July 2025. The event was held to mark the 78th birth anniversary of Dr. Lalji Singh, the Father of DNA Fingerprinting in India.

Event Highlights

Undergraduate and postgraduate students from across Kerala participated, exploring topics such as:

• The origin and development of DNA fingerprinting
• Milestones in DNA fingerprinting research
• Ethical issues in genetic identification
• Future possibilities in biotechnology

Competition Results

Winners:

1. 🥇 Mydhili P. Raj – St. Mary’s College (Autonomous), Thrissur
2. 🥈 Heera Babu – St. Mary’s College (Autonomous), Thrissur
3. 🥉 Aleena Tharakan – St. Thomas College (Autonomous), Thrissur

Prize Distribution

Certificates and cash prizes were distributed during the Department Association Inauguration on 8th August 2025 by Dr. Bijoy C, Assistant Professor, Christ College (Autonomous), Thrissur.
