The event, held on March 12, 2025, at Yuvachethana Hall, YIMS, focused on essential aspects of women’s reproductive health, uterus cancer awareness, and menstrual hygiene. Event Highlights The session commenced with a Lamp Lighting Ceremony, symbolizing enlightenment, led by Ms. Lincy Prasanth, People Service Society Animator and Promoter. She stressed the importance of early screening and preventive measures to reduce the risk of uterus cancer. Key Speakers & Insights Ms. Meena Jose Komban, Head of the Department of Computer Science, welcomed the gathering and emphasized the importance of prioritizing women’s health and early medical intervention. Rev. Dr. Joseph Olikkal Koonal, Vice Principal of YIMS, delivered the Presidential Address, highlighting the role of wellness programs in building a healthier society. Ms. Sreeja T. S., WDC Convener, encouraged proactive health management and regular screenings for better reproductive health. The program was smoothly hosted by Ms. Fincy Rahman (II BSc Computer Science) and began with a prayer led by Theertha Krishna (I BSc Computer Science). Expert Session on Uterus Cancer Awareness The highlight of the event was an informative session by Mr. Sadesh Kannan, District Coordinator of Care N Safe. He provided valuable insights into uterus cancer, its causes, symptoms, and prevention. His discussion included: ✅ Understanding Uterus Cancer – Causes, risk factors, and early warning signs.✅ Importance of Early Detection – The role of Pap smears, HPV tests, and gynecological check-ups.✅ Symptoms to Watch For – Abnormal bleeding, pelvic pain, and menstrual irregularities.✅ Preventive Measures – How a healthy diet, exercise, and lifestyle changes can reduce risk. He was accompanied by Mr. Prasanth Mathew, Care N Safe Promoter, Mannarkkad, who actively engaged with students, answering queries and clearing doubts. Safer Menstrual Hygiene: A Sustainable Approach The session also shed light on the harmful effects of commercial sanitary pads and the benefits of organic sanitary napkins: 🚨 Health Risks of Conventional Pads – Presence of synthetic fragrances, dioxins, and plastics, which may cause skin irritation and hormonal imbalances.🌍 Environmental Impact – Disposable sanitary products contribute significantly to plastic pollution.✅ Switch to Organic – Biodegradable, chemical-free sanitary napkins are safer for both health and the environment. Students were encouraged to make informed choices about menstrual hygiene and adopt eco-friendly alternatives.
