Welcome Address The program began with a warm welcome by Dr. Vimala K. John, Head and Associate Professor of the Department of Zoology.She highlighted the importance of observing Environmental Day to create lasting environmental consciousness in society. Presidential Address by Vice-Principal Rev. Dr. Fr. Anil George K., Vice-Principal, delivered the presidential address.He shared inspiring thoughts on our duty to protect nature and emphasized collective efforts for sustainable conservation. 🐾 Expert Talk: Kozhikode’s Official District Biota The keynote speaker, Sri. Sreejith S. Kumar, Assistant Zoologist at Zoological Survey of India (ZSI), Kozhikode, delivered an engaging session on “Guardians of Nature: Kozhikode’s Official District Biota.” His talk covered: Criteria for declaring district biota (endemic status, ecological importance, cultural value, conservation priority) Role of such designations in encouraging local biodiversity pride Biodiversity hotspots in Kerala like the Western Ghats, mangroves, and backwaters He urged students to become “eco-guardians” of Kerala’s natural wealth. 💬 Felicitations and Closing Dr. Binoy C. F., a senior professor, felicitated the guest and applauded the relevance of such seminars in strengthening student understanding of conservation realities.
