Merit Day Celebration organized by Department of Botany and the Old Students Association (OSA) of St. Thomas College (Autonomous), Thrissur on 10th December 2024

The Department of Botany and the Old Students Association (OSA) of St. Thomas College (Autonomous), Thrissur, organized a vibrant Merit Day celebration on 10th December 2024 at Kaviprathibha Hall. The event commenced at 2:00 PM, aiming to honor distinguished alumni and to acknowledge brilliant students for their academic excellence.The program began with a prayer by Ms. Anjana P Arjunan, followed by a warm welcome address delivered by Dr. Anto P.V., Head of the Department. The Presidential Address was given by Mr. Jacob Abraham Pulikkan (Former HOD, OSA representative), setting an inspiring tone for the day.The programme was inaugurated by Rev. Dr. Martin K.A., the Principal of St. Thomas College followed by Keynote Address by Dr. Vimala jose (Vice Principal), Dr. C.D Varghese (Former HOD). The highlight of the event was the Honoring of Distinguished Alumni, Dr. Babu Ambat (Executive Director, Centre for Environment and Development, Thiruvananthapuram), Mr. Madhu C.B (Deputy Rubber Production Commissioner, Rubber Board Regional Office, Mannarkkad), Mr. Santhiraj Kolengaden (Village Director, HOPE Community Village, Alappuzha) and acknowledging brilliant students for their academic excellence and appreciating five alumni who successfully completed Doctor of Philosophy in Botany 2024 from the Research and Post graduate graduate Department of Botany. Each of the distinguished alumni were recognized for their exceptional contributions to society and their respective fields. Dr. Sandhya Vincent Neelamkavil, Assistant Professor, introduced the awardees. Santhiraj Kolengaden delivered the Prominent Alumni Address, reflecting on his journey and the significance of his alma mater in shaping his career. The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Mr. Edwin pinton, the OSA Joint Secretary, expressing gratitude to all participants and organizers.The Merit Day celebration was a grand success, highlighting the pride of the department in its alumni and strengthening the bond between past and present students.
