The one-day seminar was held at the Bishop G. C. Alappatt Jubilee Memorial Hall.It was conducted as part of the Silver Jubilee celebrations of the Department of Biotechnology. The event focused on Biotechnology for Economy, Environment, and Employment (BIOE³).It reflected Kerala’s growing role in science, innovation, and sustainable development. Academic Support and Collaborations The seminar received strong academic backing.It was supported by the National Academy of Sciences, India (NASI), Kerala Chapter. The programme was organized in collaboration with LUCA – Malayalam Online Science Magazine.This partnership added a strong regional and science communication perspective. Inaugural Session Highlights The seminar was inaugurated by Dr. R. Sivasamy, Assistant Professor,Department of Human Genetics and Molecular Biology, Bharathiar University, Coimbatore. In his address, he highlighted recent advances in genetic disease diagnosis.He also emphasized the expanding role of biotechnology in healthcare and research. The Presidential Address was delivered by Dr. Dalie Dominic, Vice Principal.She appreciated the department’s consistent academic contributions. The Felicitation Address was given by Dr. Julie P. Lazar, Dean of Academics.She stressed the importance of research culture and innovation among students. Expert Scientific Sessions The seminar featured talks by eminent experts from academia and industry. Key sessions included: Dr. Dileepkumar R, Bio-Entrepreneur and Director,Indriyam Biologics Pvt. Ltd., ThiruvananthapuramHe spoke on bio-entrepreneurship and translational research. Dr. Deepu Mathew, Professor,Centre for Plant Biotechnology & Molecular Biology, Vellanikkara, ThrissurHe delivered insights on plant biotechnology and allele mining. These sessions inspired students to explore both research and startup pathways. Paper Presentations and Publications The seminar hosted paper presentation sessions in hybrid mode.Students and research scholars participated from various institutions. Participants received opportunities for: Publication in a WoS-indexed journal ISBN-supported conference proceedings This added strong academic value to the seminar. Student Leadership and Organisation The programme was led by Dr. Anu P. A., Head of the Department of Biotechnology.Prasanna R. Kovath served as the Programme Convenor. Student coordination was handled by the CELUXA Biotechnology Association.It was led by Secretary Aparna Rajesh, along with active student volunteers. Their teamwork ensured smooth execution throughout the day. Academic and Outreach Activities BIOCODE 2026 went beyond lectures and papers.It featured engaging academic and creative activities. Major activities included: Paper presentation competitions Logo designing contest Biotechnology-themed hackathon Genescape – Walk with a Scientist at KFRI, Thrissur BIOE³ Explorers School Outreach Programme at St. Clare’s CGHSS, Thrissur These initiatives connected science with society, especially young minds. Valedictory Session and Awards The valedictory session marked a successful conclusion.It was attended by faculty members, speakers, and participants. Dr. Deepu Mathew distributed prizes for: Best paper presentation Logo designing Hackathon competitions The organizers appreciated the enthusiasm and dedication of all participants. A Proud Moment for Kerala Academia The seminar achieved its goal of promoting scientific awareness and collaboration.It also strengthened student engagement and innovation.
