The Sociology Department at Vimala College (Autonomous), Thrissur, successfully conducted a Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA) program from January 20 to January 23, 2025. The event took place in the 15th Ward of Elavally Grama Panchayat, showcasing the college’s commitment to community development.


Event Highlights

The program began with an inaugural ceremony at 10:00 AM on January 20, led by Mr. Geo Fox, Grama Panchayat President. He highlighted the developmental progress in the region during his address. Mr. Suresh Karumathil, Ward Member, and Dr. Binu K., Head of the Sociology Department, were also present, offering their insights and support. Ms. Shameera Shabeer, Community Women Facilitator, delivered an engaging talk on “Women and Safety”.

MA Sociology students from Vimala College actively participated, alongside faculty members, ensuring the event’s success.

These methods provided valuable insights into local issues and resources.

Dr. Binu K., in his welcome speech, emphasized the importance of Participatory Rural Appraisal in fostering development. The program offered students hands-on experience in rural sociology and created awareness about sustainable practices.
