Igniting Innovation: Orientation on BIRAC E-YUVA Scheme Inspires Kerala Students

Empowering Young Innovators in Biotechnology

The Department of Biotechnology, St.marys college Autonomous Thrissur in association with the Placement Cell, organized an inspiring orientation session titled “Igniting Innovation: Orientation on BIRAC E-YUVA Scheme” on October 29, 2025. The event aimed to introduce students to the BIRAC E-YUVA (Empowering Youth for Undertaking Value Added Innovative Translational Research) Scheme, an initiative of the Biotechnology Industry Research Assistance Council (BIRAC) under the Government of India.

The program motivated students across Kerala to explore innovation and entrepreneurship in biotechnology, encouraging them to turn their scientific ideas into impactful startups.

Event Highlights

Dr. Ram Kumar G, Project Coordinator of GRG BIRAC E-YUVA Centre at PSGR Krishnammal College for Women, Coimbatore, served as the resource person for the session.
In his engaging talk, Dr. Ram Kumar explained how the E-YUVA Scheme supports young innovators through:

• Funding opportunities for student research projects
• Mentorship and training from industry experts
• Incubation support for biotech start-ups
• Exposure to industrial biotechnology and translational research

He also discussed real-life examples of successful innovation projects mentored by the PSGR E-YUVA team, inspiring participants to take bold steps toward entrepreneurship.

Students, faculty members, and placement coordinators from various departments actively participated in the session. The interactive discussions helped students understand how innovation can lead to social impact and career growth.
